This is the story about Lanval, a knight that worked in King Arthur`s court. Reading the story we can see that Marie explored on Lanval some of the characteristics that she believes are the ideal qualities that a good human should have. On the story he grew up by himself and lives a lonely life. Lanval was excluded from the society in a very mean way even having loyalty and values to his lord. We can see on the story that Lanval fell in love to a Lady that helps him on having a wealthier life. Giving his low economical and personal status on that society it is hard to imagine that this Lady exists. The Lady asked Lanval to be her lover fact the happened a lot during the Medieval Era. Through this poem Marie de France expresses that people on that society didn’t care for loyalty. She also emphasizes on her poem that people care more about what the society will think about them than being happy with the love of their lives. During this reading I identified some relations of the society on that Era with today’s society. A lot of people on today’s society put their proud first over happiness being superficial and caring about things that makes it hard for them to be happy.
