The Wife of Bath's Prologue and Tale *** Geoffrey Chaucer
This is a story about a Wife that had five husbands "at the church door" and makes it clear that she doesn’t follow any orders but experience the moments and what life could offer her. She didn’t see any crimes o sins on having five husbands and not following the bibles command. She shows a lot of knowledge regarding the bible and sometimes I was under the impression that she challenged some of the bible`s rules. Chaucer on this story tries to show his point through the main character of how women (wives) wish to be in control over their husbands emphasizing how the wife got power on each of her husband. It is really interesting that at the time that he wrote the story the antifeminism of the church was a strong factor under society. Women were not allowed to be at church during church’s doctrine, a second marriage would lead people to suspect about women and church was the main responsible about how society would see women. The story also make me wonder about Chaucer’s point of view regarding women’s rights.
