The Doubt of Future Foes *** by Queen Elisabeth I

The Doubt of Future is a poem wrote by Queen Elizabeth that illustrate the struggles and difficulties about running a kingdom. The story explores the conflict between Mary (Queen of Scots) and Elisabeth. Since Mary arrived in England many rebellions regarding the opposition of Elizabeth kingdom happened, this can be explained with how the author describes Mary: ``The daughter of debate that discord aye doth sow``. Elizabeth let it clear to Mary on the story that those actions against the Queen are not going to bring any positive impact either to Mary and either the people in England. Many of the disagreements that Mary had were based on the grounds of religion. Elizabeth believes on Anglicanism and the way that she rune the government were one of the main reasons that Mary as a Roman Catholic used to encourage people to reject Elizabeth kingdom. The poem shows how hard it is to trust on people as a Queen. A lot of people were there only for power and the lack of trust on people. She writes that saying that people that were closer from her can become her enemies like Mary did and as a consequence of Mary’s hate for Elizabeth, she ended up locking the queen in the tower. Reading this poem I could see that Queen Elizabeth expressed through her written how hard it is to be a queen and the strong difficulties that she faced.
