After watching this documentary about Marriages on the Medieval Era I learned that during that age The Marriage was really important in several aspects (family, economy and politics), but it didn’t have anything related to love which was really interesting for me. The documentary showed a lot of interesting aspects regarding how Medieval Marriages worked. It made me think about the idea of marriage seeing as a business treaty between families, as a result of the marriage the families of both parts got richer. The Weddings in the Medieval Era were well known to promote a business or contract that would benefit both families. I was surprised to know that couples had the option to choose if they were going to get marry or not. I didn’t imagine that they had this option since during Medieval Era society was really strict. Men that fell in love would have the woman they love as a mistress or lover since the wedding was between families that made a deal. If we compare how relationships used to work during the Medieval Era with Relationships in today’s society it becomes ironic. The modern customs have opposite ideas than the Medieval Era customs. This is because one of the ideals of love today is to find your soul mate and live happily ever after. In modern times is not so hard to imagine a men marrying his mistress, if he thinks he loves her more. Today we characterize couples as marrying ``the love of their lives`` because we don`t view marriage as a contract. We have grown up with the idea that we deserve to marry whoever we love. It is really interesting to think that marriages work for business and negotiations and not for love.
