It is unbelievable the mystery about Marie de France's identity. While reading Marie de France's short biography I couldn’t help to imagine how she looked like and how was her personality and personal feelings that probably contributed with her unique writing talent. It is clear that she was one of the most talented writers on the middle ages. I have no doubt that she inspired a lot of writers that started to write after her. I was under the impression that she was a lonely women that interacted with a very few people. I also think that she felt vulnerable and unhappy towards man and society. Her writings are different from other women’s writing during the medieval era. The other writers were probably scared to write a story that would put women stronger that man. In my opinion Marie de France believed that women are better than men and men have weakness. During the time that she wrote her poems man could have never being seeing as week and probably they were always trying to show strong personalities. I guess Marie de France's poems were inspired about her personal feelings, desires and expectations about the human kind. I am sure that she is one of the most talented writers that we have ever had. I also believe that her brave personality inspired women on that era to write what they wanted to write. She is one of the many women personalities that contributed to change today’s society. Today women are being able to be successful, powerful, independent and role models for future generation. My generation among others is fortunate to have brave people that contributed and fought for equal rights, among other things. It is crazy to think the influence that many personalities from ages ago brought to our society. I wonder if they could have ever imagined the impact that they would have on the today’s society since many of them were not recognized during their lifetime. The fact that nobody has ever met Marie de France and nobody can say for sure about her life in general makes her poems and her personality more interesting.
Marie de France's poem Equitan, tells the story about Equitan, a selfish King. Equitan is characterized by his selfish acts and passion on exploring his hobbies. He wasn’t a responsible king, instead of prioritizing his duties as a king; his priorities were pleasure and woman. During the reading we can see that one of Marie de France`s thought was that love should inspire couples to be faithful with each other and that men and woman should have equal rights. It caught my attention that Marie de France just described the lady on the poem with physical characteristics almost on the end of the poem I understand why. Marie believed that love should come from inside on a person reflecting on the personality. It is clear that Marie`s about the King were negatives. Equitan should have had more control of himself and be less selfish as we can see on a lot of parts of the reading. The Lady and the King ended up on a bad place. There is one simple word that can easily describe the end of this story Karma. It is easy to see that Mary believed on Karma. The relation about the poem and Karma can be explained with the end of the story and her lighter critique that you can be succeed if you have a good place in life and true values. All of you acts (bad or good) will reflect on your future sooner or later.
