Chaitivel *** Marie de France
Chaitvel is the story about a beautiful lady that is desired by four pretty and brave Knights. Since she can’t decide what Knight she is going to choose between the four of them, she plans a tournament for them to battle in order to fight for her love. A battle happens between the four knights one night before the tournament and three of the fourth knights are killed and the fourth is badly warmed. The fourth knight survived and visited the lady occasionally. Mary emphasizes through some details on the story the consequences that the Lady was put for being desired for many men. The author didn’t put the blame directly on the Lady but directed to her situation. She gives a suggestion that a woman that is courted by a one or more men should treat them with respect. The lady in this story doesn’t do that due to some of her attitudes, such as, her concern on which knight she should choose and her excitement about the courteous behaviors of the knights because of her beauty. As a result of her self-love and her lack of control a tragedy happens.
